melissaAnne COLORS is photography going beyond the traditional. It's about seeing the world in a different way. Seeing beauty in the worn and mundane. melissaAnne COLORS is color, dreams, and making a difference.

about Melissa.

I have spent over 15 years as a Crisis Management professional creating programs and providing assistance to survivors and families of victims of disaster. My newest passion is photography and textiles. A native of Texas, I moved to Brooklyn, NY 8 years ago with a dream of living in a loft in SoHo and having my own photography gallery. I've settled into Brooklyn and now dream of owning a brownstone and having a studio overlooking the water. melissaAnne COLORS is about discovering my purpose, embracing my creativity, following a dream, and inspiring others to do the same.

I believe in color.
I believe in the power of a dream.
I believe we can all make a difference.

the Journey.

While working in Crisis Management photography became my “self-care” practice. It was a way to deal with the stress and sadness often created by my job. Photography soothed me and gave me an opportunity to look at the world around me in a different way, seeking beauty in unusual places and things. During a business trip to Iceland, I took a random picture of the bottom of an old, wooden boat. The colors and textures intrigued me and there was a sense of making something new and beautiful out of something worn and weathered. That one unexpected photo moment opened up a new world for me and inspired the melissaAnne COLORS photography collections.

the Colors Collection.

The melissaAnne COLORS photography collection, representing hidden beauty in things like boat bottoms, walls of graffiti, and water reflections provide colors that energize and inspire and textures that intrigue. The Collection includes Water Colors, Urban Colors, and Reflection Colors. The images initially appear as paintings but could be called "nature's paintings" because nature and time provide the texture and patterns that bring the ordinary into art.

the Vision.

melissaAnne COLORS Fine Art Photography is printed on eco-friendly, archive quality paper. I strive to use sustainable materials for all photo products and I support small business partners whenever possible. For more information about photo prints, see the Purchasing Prints tab.

I am now taking melissaAnne COLORS photography prints “off the walls” and expanding the Colors Collection to textile designs. I am creating a Home Collection that will debut with a collection of colorful and elegant pillows made with custom textiles from the melissaAnne COLORS images. See my prototype pillows here!

My goal for sourcing of material for the melissaAnne COLORS Home Collection is to use sustainable fabrics and materials from companies that believe in economic and environmental sustainability programs. In production of my line, I want to work with organizations that have strong social missions to end poverty, create economic stability for individuals and communities, and empower women.
